Military Sexual Assault Advocacy (CAAFA SHN Community Training)
Subject: In 2016 alone, there were 6,172 reported sexual assaults in the United States military. The Arizona National Guard has taken a proactive approach to recognizing and preventing domestic violence, sexual harassment and assault behaviors. This training will address the dynamics of sexual assault in the military as well as give an overview of the Arizona National Guard’s Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) and Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) programs, which reinforce the Military’s commitment to eliminate incidents of sexual assault through a comprehensive policy that centers on awareness and prevention training and education, victim advocacy, response, reporting, and accountability. MSG. Manygoats will further touch upon partnerships with local victims-service nonprofits, including the Arizona National Guard’s partnership with CAAFA for military sexual assault victim advocacy.

Presenter: MSG. Angelita Manygoats, Arizona National Guard
Msgt. Angelita Manygoats is currently assigned as the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator, Joint Force Headquarters, Arizona National Guard. In that capacity, she manages and implements the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) Program. MSG. Manygoats reviews sexual assault and domestic violence policies and programs to determine barriers and advises the Adjutant General relative to their impact on National Guard policy to overcome high risk areas and potential offender behaviors; and recommends changes or new actions.
Further, she develops, conducts, and/or coordinates sexual assault prevention training for new hires, supervisors, and all members of the state National Guard. She ensures overall management of sexual assault awareness, prevention, training, and victim advocacy. and is further responsible for both conducting senior leader training to increase awareness of sexual assault issues and offender behavior, and conducting annual refresher SAPR Program training for all assigned Brigade/Wing SARCs and all Battalion/Wing SAPR VAs within the state. MSG Manygoats has been in the Arizona Army National Guard for 22 years. She completed a one year tour in Iraq in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from 24 January 2003 to 26 May 2004.
